Amazon has become a tool for all industries and Interior Design is no exception. Not only do they have a wide variety of option, reliable delivery and in many cases, you can find a similar item for or styles for less than you would pay from the typical home improvement supplier. And let’s be real – a budget is a budget.
Here are some of my favorite finds and how I used them.
1. Peal & Stick Wallpaper
Wallpaper is a great way to add interest to a nook and that’s what we did with this peal-and-stick wallpaper. Because of some HVAC and plumbing systems that couldn’t be moved, we ended up with a little nook inside a washroom we were renovating. We used this wallpaper to accent the nook before adding a few shelves for added storage. Being a vinyl product, it worked well in the washroom and finished off the design nicely.
2. Bladeless Ceiling Fan
This GZAMOF bladeless ceiling fan was a personal purchase. I have always hated the look of traditional ceiling fans but with the new windows the condo board installed, there was a noticeable difference in the airflow. I needed something.
This fan is incredibly quiet, also has 3 shade settings and dimmable. I’m not a fan of the remote but this one does offer an app that makes making adjustments super easy.
3. Flush Mount Ceiling Light
These flush mount ceiling lights from CycevSun were one of my most recent purchases and had to have had the biggest change on the space. We had a home with lower ceiling (8ft) and in their kitchen, they had two 4-lamp ceiling lights. The problem we were trying to solve was the spotty lighting these fixtures were casting. What we didn’t expect is just how much installing a flush-mount ceiling fixture would open-up the room, making it feel so much bigger. And the lighting is much fuller as well.
This lamp comes with 3 shade settings and is dimmable. It was easy to install, once you figured out which direct to turn the plate.
4. Machine Washable Area Rug
In an office redesign in a converted warehouse, we were dealing with some sound challenges. The offices had concert floors and tall, open deck (metal), ceilings. Even the softest talker would echo in these rooms.
The budget wouldn’t allow for a drop ceiling but we could use softer materials inside the office to help absorb the sound – we needed a rug. BUT, because this was an office, we also wanted something durable and something that could be easily maintained. The machine washable option of this rug was perfect.
5. Wall Art
Something we also used in part of the same office redesign project was this wall art. Again, looking for something to help with the sound absorption, we wanted some canvas artwork. These worked perfectly with the colour concept and the budget.
6. Blackout Curtains
We didn’t uses these blackout curtains in the typical way, but in a couple different ways. First, and most often, we used these curtains in a retail setting on fitting rooms. We took over a store whose fitting rooms didn’t have doors but the curtains have previously been removed. These were perfect to provide the needed privacy.
The other way we used theses, again in retail, was to separate (extending) the backroom from the salesfloor. Again, these provided the right amount of privacy for the client.
7. Cabinet Pulls
As part of the office work, we were to update the kitchen. Again, very small budget but we had good bones to work with. To modernize the kitchen, we changed the original stainless door pulls for these sleek black ones from KNOBWELL. The package had just enough for what we needed, arrived on-time and made a big impact.
8. Cable Concealer
These cable covers were also a personal purchase. When I redesigned my fireplace wall, I needed something new to conceal the wires from the TV. These were easy to install, painted really well, and made the wall look much cleaner.
9. Daybed & Mattress
Last but not least, and also a personal purchase, this daybed and mattress. In a one-bedroom condo, there were times a second bed was needed. An air mattress was all fine and good, but it wasn’t cutting it any longer. This daybed was affordable, stylish and very easy to put together. It is also low enough profile that with a few changes, it can be styled in a way that doesn’t look like a typical bed. The biggest surprise was how comfortable the mattress was, given the price.
10. Patio Furniture Cover
With fall in full affect, it’s time to start putting away the patio furniture. If you’ve had to clean patio furniture in the spring, you know how much of a pain that can be when they haven’t been stored properly. When you look for outdoor furniture covers, something so simple can be SO expensive.
This patio cover was not only reasonably priced but great quality.
